SMARTER MOBILITY
SMARTER CITIES

HI
I am Saeed, a researcher at Delft University of Technology. I am highly motivated to integrate the ideas from the computer and data science world into urban planning and transportation engineering. Currently, I am working on an EU-funded flagship project called Hi-Drive, aiming to push forward the development of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles across European countries with a partnership between leading European car manufacturers, universities, and tech corporations.
Here, I am glad to share with you a little bit of my research and professional experiences. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are interested to collaborate!
WORK EXPERIENCE
I have been working as a traffic engineer and transportation planner since 2015. I am now working as a data scientist at Traffic Research Laboratory at IUST.
Data Analytics and Visualization
for
Tehran ICT Organization

2020 - Present
The goal of this project is to gather, preprocess, and integrate all transportation data collected by Tehran Municipality ICT Organization (TMICTO), and then turn these multi-source data into applicable information for users, decision-makers, and specialists. The data include public transit AVL, mobile phones GPS, public transport e-tickets, and on-road traffic counters data. We use different packages in python for data analysis and visualization, including Pandas, Numpy, Dask, Matplotlib, Scikit-Learn, Plotly, KeplerGL, and so on).
Integrated, Multi-modal
Public Transportation Studies
of Shiraz

2019 - Present
We aim to design an integrated, multi-modal public transport network in Shiraz, Iran. Various sources of data are employed, including household survey data, public transportation e-ticketing, AVL data, and land-use data. We try to locate areas with high demand for public transportation. Also, we should identify human mobility patterns in Shiraz using electronic ticket data. My contribution in this project is data analytics and public transportation demand modeling.
Modeling
Road Transportation Network
of Iran

2017 - 2018
The comprehensive transport analysis of the country roads aimed to predict the flow of freight and passengers in the design year 1400. In these studies, in the first step, the statistics and information received from the client on cargo and passenger displacement in the country were compiled and then refined. Other information needed for freight and passenger modeling was also obtained from relevant authorities.
In the next step, the origin and destination matrices of freight and passenger trips were estimated. Finally, the demand was assigned to the network.
Evaluating the “Low Emission Zone” Congestion Pricing Policy

2019 - 2020
In this project, we aimed to evaluate the impacts of the new congestion pricing policy on travelers' behaviors and pollutants emission in Tehran. In this regard, various sources of data were used, including traffic count data, public transport data (AVL and e-tickets), and Google Maps traffic data. Different packages in Python, R Studio, and ArcGIS have been employed for data analysis.
Updating the Comprehensive Transportation Study of Iran

2018
In this project, which aimed to update the comprehensive transportation study of Iran, I collaborated in database preparation and extracting freight and passengers OD matrices for two modes of travel (rail and marine). These data included the road survey data as well as the travelers’ tickets data.
Studying Intelligent Transportation Systems in Tehran, Iran

2017 - 2018
In this project, we evaluated different intelligent transportation systems in Tehran (including advanced traffic management systems, e-payment systems, traveler information system, etc.) and proposed recommendations regarding the development of shared modes of travel, connected and autonomous vehicles, advanced traveler information systems and some visions on the use of emerging sources of data for transportation purposes. This project was fullfilled as part of the “Tehran Smart City Vision” project.
